Church of Annunciation
It is here (or near here) that the Angel Gabriel told Mary that she would have a Son and that she was to call him, "Jesus" because He would save people from their sin. Designed by the architect Giovanni Muzio, the present Basilica of the Annunciation is built on two levels. The upper level follows the outline of the 12th-century Crusader- cathedral (a nave, flanked by two aisles), and partly reconstructs the eastern apses. The lower level enshrines the Byzantine grotto.
